approach
My approach focused on capturing the mood and visual language associated with Bossa Nova, warmth, rhythm, elegance, and a connection to nature and Brazilian identity. I researched visual references connected to the cultural context of the music, including tropical botanical imagery and bold yet minimal design.
challenges
One of the main challenges was balancing bold design choices with readability, especially when working with large typography and lyrical content. It was important that the layouts remained expressive while still allowing the lyrics to be easily read.
Another challenge was creating consistency across multiple pieces of the album packaging. Ensuring that the cover, booklet, and CD design all felt connected required careful attention to hierarchy, spacing, and visual rhythm.
concept and inspiration
The concept centers on vibrancy, rhythm, and cultural atmosphere. The strong yellow palette references sunlight, warmth, and the energy often associated with Brazilian landscapes and music culture.
Botanical imagery was used to reinforce a tropical identity and create a sense of movement throughout the booklet. The bold typographic treatments echo the rhythm of the music, while the layout structure creates a visual flow similar to the progression of a song.
Design execution
The execution involved designing a complete album package, including the CD cover, disc, and a lyric booklet. I developed a consistent visual language that connects all elements through color, typography, and imagery.
Large typographic compositions were used to create visual impact, while botanical illustrations add texture and balance to the layouts. The booklet design focuses on readability while maintaining strong visual interest, integrating lyrics with imagery to enhance the storytelling aspect of the music.
